One Year of AETERNUM: The Journey of Building an Indian Fashion Brand from the Ground Up

One year. Countless decisions. Lessons we could not have learned any other way. And a brand that became far more personal than we ever expected.

When we began building AETERNUM, we knew that creating a fashion brand would demand more than good designs and quality fabrics. It would require patience, consistency, difficult decisions, and the willingness to keep going even when the next step was not always clear.

A year later, as we celebrate one year of AETERNUM, we find ourselves looking back at a journey that has been as demanding as it has been meaningful. From the first conversations about fabrics and fits to sourcing, manufacturing challenges, product development, exhibitions, customer orders, and the everyday work of running a business, every stage has contributed to what AETERNUM is today.

This is the story of our first year – not just of the clothes we created, but of the work, uncertainty, learning, and emotion behind building a premium Indian clothing brand from the ground up.

Where It All Began: Building AETERNUM

AETERNUM was founded with a clear ambition: to build a premium fashion and lifestyle brand offering modern clothing with an emphasis on quality, fit, and considered design.

We wanted to create clothes that could find a place in everyday wardrobes without compromising on how they looked or felt. From premium round-neck T-shirts and oversized unisex T-shirts to polo T-shirts, shirts, and more tailored styles, the objective was to develop a collection that brought together contemporary design and everyday wearability.

But an idea is only the beginning.

Turning that idea into a functioning fashion brand meant making decisions about everything – from fabrics and colours to silhouettes, manufacturing, pricing, product presentation, and how customers would experience the brand online.

There was no single moment when everything came together. AETERNUM took shape through a series of decisions, conversations, revisions, and small steps forward.

For us, building the brand meant learning to think about fashion from both sides: the product that a customer eventually wears and the extensive work required to bring that product to life.

The First Challenge: Finding the Right Fabrics and Developing the Products

Before a customer can discover a shirt or T-shirt on a website, there is a process that most people never see.

There are fabric options to evaluate, colours to consider, fits to develop, samples to review, and manufacturing details to get right. Each decision affects the finished garment, its appearance, its comfort, and the experience it delivers.

Our early sourcing journey was a significant part of building AETERNUM. We had to understand materials, work with suppliers, evaluate options, and make decisions that aligned with the standard we wanted the brand to maintain.

Developing premium clothing is not simply a matter of choosing a fabric that looks good. The garment needs to work as a whole. The fit, finish, construction, colour, and detailing all contribute to the final result.

And sometimes, the first attempt does not deliver what you had imagined.

Manufacturing brought its own set of challenges. Turning an idea into a finished garment involved coordination, adjustments, problem-solving, and learning how to navigate the practical realities of apparel production.

There were things we had to revisit, things we had to understand better, and moments when progress demanded more time than expected.

These experiences taught us an important lesson: a premium fashion brand is built through attention to detail long before the customer sees the final product.

From Samples to a Collection: Giving the Brand a Physical Identity

As the product development process progressed, AETERNUM began to move from an idea towards a tangible collection.

The fabrics became garments. The designs became products. The brand began to take on a visual identity that could be experienced through photography, product pages, packaging, and customer interactions.

Our collection brought together different approaches to everyday dressing, including oversized T-shirts, polo T-shirts, and shirts. Each category required its own attention to fit, styling, and presentation.

We also began thinking about how customers would discover AETERNUM. A product needs to be more than a photograph and a price on a screen. Customers need to understand its design, fabric, fit, and place in their wardrobe.

That meant working on product descriptions, visual content, website presentation, and the details that shape an online shopping experience.

Building a direct-to-consumer fashion brand involves both the visible product and the less visible work that supports it. We had to consider how AETERNUM would look, how it would communicate, and how customers would interact with it from the first visit to the moment they received their order.

Every element became part of the larger learning process.

The Reality of Building a Fashion Startup: Not Every Day Brings an Order

One of the most important lessons of our first year was that building a brand does not follow a perfectly predictable timeline.

There were moments when orders came in and gave us the encouragement to keep moving. There were also periods when orders slowed down, and the next sale was not something we could take for granted.

For anyone building a business, those quieter periods can be difficult.

You continue working on the products, improving the website, creating content, exploring opportunities, and looking for ways to reach customers. But the results do not always arrive when you expect them to.

Fashion adds another layer to that challenge. Customers have choices, preferences change, and earning attention in a crowded market takes sustained effort. A good product still needs to be discovered, understood, and chosen.

We had to learn that progress is not measured only by the number of orders received in a particular week. Sometimes, progress comes from understanding what needs to improve. Sometimes, it means reviewing an approach, trying something different, or simply continuing the work when the immediate results are not encouraging.

There were days when the uncertainty felt heavier than the milestones. But those days were part of our first year, too.

We would not tell this story honestly if we only spoke about the highlights.

Doing the Work Ourselves: The Side of Entrepreneurship Customers Rarely See

AETERNUM's first year also meant learning to operate across different parts of the business.

There was product sourcing and manufacturing coordination, but there was also branding, photography, website management, content creation, marketing, customer communication, and the daily decisions that keep a small business moving.

Many of these responsibilities happened simultaneously.

A product could require attention on the manufacturing side while the website needed an update and a new campaign needed to be planned. Marketing could not stop simply because another part of the business demanded time.

As founders, AK and AG have experienced how closely these responsibilities are connected. Building a fashion brand has meant moving between the creative and operational sides of the business, often learning by doing. We have had to understand unfamiliar problems, make decisions with the information available, and take responsibility for the results.

But this journey has never been only about the founders. Our parents' support has been an important part of what has kept us going. Building a business comes with uncertainty, and having family stand behind you through the demanding days means more than words can fully express. Their encouragement has been a reminder that even when the work feels overwhelming, we are not doing it entirely alone.

And then there is RKN, who has been a support in building all of this from day 01! He looks after AETERNUM's entire technology side. From the website and its functionality to the technical work that supports our digital presence, his role helps bring the brand to life beyond the clothes themselves. In a business where so much of the customer experience happens online, that contribution is an essential part of the journey.

Doing things ourselves was not always the easiest route. It often meant more work, more time, and a steep learning curve. But it also gave us a closer understanding of what AETERNUM needed at every stage. We learned not only from the challenges we faced, but also from the people who stood beside us and helped us move forward.

It helped us understand the effort behind every product, every campaign, every website update, and every customer interaction.

Behind a brand that appears polished on a screen is a great deal of work that never appears in the final photograph. There are people solving problems, supporting decisions, and putting in effort that customers may never see. Our first year made that clearer than ever, and reminded us that while AETERNUM carries the vision of its founders, its journey has also been shaped by the people who have supported it along the way.

Beyond the Website: Exhibitions and Meeting Customers in Person

A fashion brand does not exist only in its online store.

During our first year, exhibitions became another important part of the AETERNUM journey. They gave us opportunities to present our collection in person, introduce the brand to new audiences, and experience a different side of customer discovery.

There is a difference between someone scrolling past a product online and someone seeing it in person. At an exhibition, people can look closely at the garment, understand its fit, ask questions, and form their own impression of the brand.

For us, these interactions were valuable because they brought the product and the customer closer together.

Exhibitions also reminded us that building awareness takes effort beyond publishing content or running a website. It involves showing up, presenting the collection, speaking to people, and being willing to introduce your brand again and again.

Every conversation offered an opportunity to learn more about how people respond to the products we create.

These experiences formed another part of our first year: taking AETERNUM beyond the digital storefront and giving people more ways to encounter the brand.

What One Year Has Taught Us About Building a Premium Clothing Brand

Looking back, our first year has taught us lessons that no single plan could have fully prepared us for.

Quality requires attention at every stage. The finished garment reflects decisions made long before production is complete. Fabric, fit, construction, and finishing all matter.

A brand is built through consistency. One collection or campaign cannot establish everything. The work of developing products, communicating clearly, and showing up for customers continues long after launch.

Sales and progress do not always move at the same pace. There will be periods of momentum and periods of uncertainty. Learning how to respond to both is part of building a business.

The customer experience extends beyond the product. The website, product information, communication, delivery, and after-sales support all influence how customers experience a brand.

Building something takes more than one kind of skill. Creativity, operations, financial decisions, marketing, and problem-solving often come together in the same working day.

Above all, we have learned that a brand is not built in a single defining moment. It develops through the accumulation of everyday decisions – some that work as intended, some that need to be reconsidered, and others that teach us something we carry forward.

AETERNUM's first year has been a process of building, testing, learning, and continuing.

One Year Later: AETERNUM Is More Than a Business to Us

When you build something from the ground up, your relationship with it changes over time.

An idea gradually becomes a responsibility. The responsibility becomes a routine. And the routine becomes connected to the people, effort, and decisions that have brought the brand this far.

For us, AETERNUM has become deeply personal.

It carries the memory of the first sourcing decisions, the anticipation of seeing products come together, the frustration of manufacturing challenges, the uncertainty of slower sales periods, and the satisfaction of seeing the brand represented at exhibitions and experienced by customers.

It also represents the work that continues when nobody is watching: the planning, the revisions, the conversations, and the determination to keep improving.

That is what makes this anniversary meaningful.

We are not celebrating a year in which everything went according to plan. We are celebrating a year in which we learned what it takes to keep building, even when the path was not straightforward.

AETERNUM is still developing. There is more to learn, more to improve, and more work ahead. We see this anniversary not as a finish line, but as a moment to recognise how far the journey has brought us and to approach the next chapter with greater understanding.

To everyone who has discovered AETERNUM, purchased from us, met us at an exhibition, followed our journey, or encouraged us along the way: thank you for being part of our first year.

Your support has helped make this milestone possible, and we do not take that for granted.
